This mommy tries to relax with a good book: My November book list

What would you do if you had an hour to yourself? Imagine it no kids, just you and silence. For me, my answer would be to read. I love to read so much I even listen to books on tape. Now I know this world is crazy, you have kids demanding your attention, maybe you have a demanding job and other commitments. Life is crazy! However I feel if I have a good book to read in the in between times, you know a good escape. Than life becomes more manageable. This being said I thought I would share what I am reading this month.

I have multiple books that I read during a given month usually at the same time. This first book I call my purse book . It’s the book you will see me reading while I am waiting for my kids at school, sports practices, really anything!I seem to wait more and more with each passing year. The book that is currently in my purse is called:

“Steal Like an Artist 10 Things nobody told you about being creative”. By Austin Kleon

So far this book has been great, it is a boost to my creative soul. I am about 20 pages into it but so far I love it!

This next book is one that I read every year right before the holiday season. It is called

“The Autobiography of Santa Claus” by Jeff Guinn

This story is an historical fiction book. It is cheerful and makes you instantly in the holiday mood. I first read this book 8 years ago and it is still my go to book in November. It has history, kindness and will leave you with hope in the season. With this book you will no longer question the  existence of Santa Claus. It light and perfect for those stress filled days when a pick me up is needed

This last book is on my list is one to read with your family, and kids. I strongly believe that reading to our children is giving them the gift of a love for books. This book I have yet to read but am looking forward to diving into with my little family it is called:

“Letters From Father Christmas” by J.R.R. Tolkien

From what I understand is J.R.R. Tolkien wrote letters from Father Christmas to his children every year. From these letter a book was published. The reviews on it are really good so I look forward to adding this book to our library this year.

As you can tell I love reading. Reading allows me to escape the craziness even if it is only for 20 minutes. Our house is filled with books, of every kind, that I can’t wait to share them with you. So what are you reading right now? What’s on your list to read in the future?

  1. I am definitely interested in the autobiography of Santa Claus, I love anything to put me in the Christmas spirit. I do wish I had more free time to read, such a good past time.

  2. I love to read! I do most of my reading during the day while my kids are at school and that whole time my books take me to a different places and relaxes me

  3. Before kids I could have easily had three books on the once. That was coming up for almost 5 years ago and i think i may have finished one since? You have inspired me to go blow the dust of my book shelf and start reading for me again. ‘Where is the Green Sheep?’ will just have to read 234 times a day instead of 235 😉

  4. I agree, even if it’s only for a short amount of time, reading is such a great way to relax. It is a joy I have carried over from my youth, and I’m glad. Most things we loved as a kid we don’t anymore. Reading? Always!

  5. Interesting list of book recommendations! Will definitely research more about this and see if these would be my kind of reading. Thanks for sharing!
